Mr. & Mrs. Bishop
Posted on | October 23, 2011 | No Comments
On a nice warm, bright sunny day in October two of my closet friends, Tim and Bree, celebrated their love. The wedding was simple and small. The food, since Tim selected it, was delicious.

Recipe: Savoury Muffins
Posted on | July 10, 2011 | No Comments
1. Turn oven to 180 degrees
2. Place cupcake liners into trays, unless you want to grease it. I’m lazy.
3. Grab a mixing bowl, add in dry ingredients.
- 1.5 cups self-raising flour
- 1x teaspoon salt
- 200 gm tasty grated cheese (use half for mix, and other half for the top)
4. Mix in wet ingredients and add to bowl.
- 1x egg
- 1-1.5 cups milk (start with 1 cup, and add more as needed)
5. Mix in flavours.
- I’ve used sun-dried tomatoes, roast pumpkin, feta, fried bacon bits, capsicum, corn, spring onions. The list is endless.
6. Mix gently, don’t over mix.
7. Pour mixture into cupcake liners>
8. Sprinkle with cheese, herbs, etc.
9. Cook for just over 20 minutes. Test with a knife to make sure they are done.
The Four-Thousand Weekly Coffee
Posted on | June 15, 2011 | 2 Comments
Over the last two-months or so there’s been a group of friends that have been rotating coffee venues on Saturdays exploring Brisbane, kind of how we do vellobne, except without bikes and more breakfast and coffee. It has been a very interesting experience trying out different hot spots around Brisbane.
My favorite would have to be Blackstar Coffee at West End (4101), mostly because it’s close and the coffee is amazing (the bacon and eggs are great, and reasonably priced as well). We’ve ventured over to the Northern Suburbs (4010) for Brewbakers, it’s a little small and a struggle to actually find a seat, but worth it mostly because of the delicious sweets.
Last weekend we tried to get a table at Dudley Street Espresso (4103), sadly it’s a very small shop without any outdoor seating, we did get a chance to order a coffee before we headed to Groove Cafe, just a few meters away. I didn’t order any coffee, but I was told it wasn’t that great — but the breakfast is very cheap.

#Vellobne – May Ride (Labour Day aka #comride)
Posted on | May 2, 2011 | No Comments
I will write my own recap (eventually), but until then, you can read what Thom has written here.
In total we did 17.90km, over 2 hours and 28 minutes, from South Bank to Boggo Road, over to University of Queensland, along Toowong to South Brisbane, then to the City and back to South Bank. Sadly Greystone was rather packed, so we grabbed a drink at The Ship Inn.
Grindr for Android (1.0.4 Update)
Posted on | April 30, 2011 | No Comments
You’d have thought that by version 1.0.4 Grindr would have fixed all the bugs, sadly, that’s not the case. Often I’ll find when opening Grindr on my Nexus One that I get this weird error saying that Grindr cannot open. Not even sure what that means, but if I close it, and reopen it, the application will work.
There must still be some serious issues. Another one, if you are in the middle of a chat, and get another message (which doesn’t happen very often with me), Grindr will crash.
Oh. I’d also hoped that if you removed the application data, Grindr wouldn’t be smart enough to remember and you’d get the 7 day free trial of Grindr Xtra again, sadly, Grindr is smart enough. Looks like I’m stuck with only loading up 100 guys at a time.
#Vellobne – April Ride (Harvest aka #fallride)
Posted on | April 23, 2011 | No Comments
April’s ride was meant to be last weekend, but was cancelled, instead we hit the bikepaths of Brisbane this afternoon for a 30.30km bike ride (a three-hour long bike ride!). The theme was Harvest, because there always needs to be a theme, and of course @itsthom provided fun trivia to keep us entertained (and educated).
Centuries ago, the season was known as harvest, the time when crops were gathered at the end of the growing season. This still happens today, though most of us live at a distance from farming, and the farm. This month we’re closing that gap with a meander through some of Brisbane’s farms, past and present. [link]
We started from Greystone Bar & Cellar (our meeting point) over to the Botanic Gardens, then onto New Farm Park (where we stopped at Brisbane Powerhouse), then onto Eagle Farm (we stopped at Cameron Rocks Reserve & Hamilton Recreational Reserve). Our next stop was Northey Street City Farm (which is still in operation), @goashley left us there so he could shower and head over to #homotub. We all rode over over to Jane Street Community Gardens, via Kurilpa Bridge.
There was a race back to Greystone, the winning team was @samclifford, @rosieryan and myself, the other team @itsthom, @TheDanBarrett and @LuBarrett arriving shortly after.
While making out way to West End, found these gnomes on the road. Perfect photo opportunity.
Dan didn’t really want a photo, but I convinced him.
Eamon Sullivan named Cleo Magazine’s Bachelor of the Year
Posted on | April 21, 2011 | No Comments
Let’s be honest, was there any doubt that Sullivan would win Cleo Mag’s Bachelor of the Year with the marketing campgain currenly being run by CSR? With the tag like ‘I like to bake raw’, could it be anymore sexual? Could it be anymore focused towards gay men? Could he get get rid of that mixing bowl? Could they have whitened his teeth anymore? Probably.
What I don’t understand is how acccording to Cleo, a taken but unmarried man still counts as a bachelor, isn’t a bachelor someone that is single? Do Cleo really want to encourage home-wreckers? They probably do. Sullivan said he was single (I’m not sure how that’s even possible).
”There’s been some great names that have come before me so I hope I can follow in their footsteps and do the title proud – especially if it involves dating a supermodel,”
Let’s be honest, Sullivan no doubt won because of the gay vote, what’s not to love about a toned swimmer with a smile that bright.
Hands On With The Samsung Galaxy Tab
Posted on | April 19, 2011 | No Comments
Having decided that waiting ten-business days for Telstra to deliver the Galaxy Tab I cancelled the order (and now need to wait 3-5 business days for a refund), and instead walked into a Telstra store, since as of this morning they started selling them for $299. Why I didn’t just wait a few days in the first place I don’t know.
Telstra Queen St only had white stock, I did really want black, but I can get a case and no one will ever know the difference. Give it a week and I won’t bother with the case.
There is a brilliantly clear screen, the zoom is amazing, what bugs me is that you can’t turn the camera sounds off, even if the device is on silent. The Tab doesn’t automatically install the required software on my computer to connect as a mass-storage device (this is a little annoying). It’s weird that the power button is on the right-hand side instead on top of the device.
I’m not really sure why I wanted a tablet, mostly it’s because I won’t need to get my laptop out all the time, but my phone looks so tiny now.
Samsung Galaxy Tab
Posted on | April 18, 2011 | No Comments
On Friday afternoon Telstra started offering the 7″ Samsung Galaxy Tab online for only $299 (outright, unlocked). I’ve been considering purchasing a tablet for a long time but wanted something with 3G capabilities, a screen that I wouldn’t need a stylus with (the Telstra T-Touch is clunky, slow and unattractive, it’s even been reduced in price from $279 to $199 and includes FREE 5GB of data).
Thinking it over for roughly three-minutes I decided to buy it, having the Telstra website crash on me before entering my card details was a little annoying, but finally it was ordered and received my confirmation (and email shortly after).
It was going to take around 3 business days before I could pick it up at the local Telstra store, which is a bit of a pain. To my shock, there was an email yesterday from Telstra:
Thanks for your recent Telstra Online order (Order Number: XXXXXX). Unfortunately we are unable to proceed with your order due to an issue we have identified in our verification process.
Spent roughly eighty-minutes on the phone to Telstra last night trying to figure out what the problem was, and how to fix it, but when you keep getting transferred to closed departments you’ll never get anything solved. I’d forgotten that Telstra lacks good customer service, I gave up and figured that I’d try again today. No luck. I did speak with this really nice guy that felt really bad he couldn’t solve my problem.
Seeing that I couldn’t get anywhere with Telstra, I had decided that the universe simply didn’t want me to have the tablet. Then I thought about it more, and really wanted it, so I got my friend to order it for me. Now it’s meant to arrive in five-business days, I’m hoping that Telstra delivery it before COB Thursday. *fingers crossed*
keep looking »
